In the ephemera of the Internet, I saw a tweet about merit badges for FourSquare accomplishments last week. 
I collected badges with great pride as a child. I still have my Brownie & Girl Guide accomplishment badges and the Canadian Figure Skating Association badges I earned between grades 3 and 8.
Something about this idea of badges appeals to me. Why stop at just FourSquare badges?
Recently, I met CJ Gosling a writer, blogger and aspiring YA novelist at a post-workshop pub night in Nanaim
o, BC. We got talking about all sorts of social media opportunities for writers. I told her about my home base theory … the idea that every writer needs a central place on the Internet. Whether its a blog or a website, this digital parlour provides a place to share ideas, spark conversations and for readers to leave their calling cards. Cool! The home page of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic website includes a feed from the Vancouver 2010 Olympics Facebook fan page. My friend Moira happened to visit the page when my face was featured as one of the fans. (Thanks for the screen capture, Moira!). What are the odds? Something like a 1 in 60,000 chance that my face would be a featured.
