BookCamp Vancouver 2009

10.28.2009 by Angela Crocker // Leave a Comment

What a treat to meet publishing friends new and old at Bookcamp Vancouver, an unconference on the state and art of publishing.  During the day, I had the opportunity to co-moderate a panel on “Book Marketing From a Reviewer’s Perspective” with Lori Dunn.  SFU Masters of Publishing candidate Eva Quintana gamely took on the task of notetaking for the duration of the conversation (Thanks, Eva!) and I share the highlights with you here. The Golden Rule

10.21.2009 by Angela Crocker // Leave a Comment

Recently,  I was in the green room of one of Vancouver’s top TV interview programs with a client.  Studio 4, hosted by the affable and talented Fanny Keifer, offers rare extended interview in these days of 30 second sound bites and 140 character blog posts.  My author was one of three guests and, as usual, we chatted and made small talk with the show’s wonderful staff and others in the room.  What I took away that day were some interesting new acquaintances and, most unusually, an abject reminder of what not to do. Orca Book Publishers

10.15.2009 by Angela Crocker // Leave a Comment

Since I learned to read around age 3, I have been a fan of children’s books.  I collect picture books, enjoy novels intended for tweens & teens, read aloud to my son and  generally act as advocate for children and literature whenever I have the opportunity.  One of my long-time favourite publishing houses is Orca Book Publishers.  Today, I attended a celebration of their books at Vancouver Kidsbooks and had the pleasure of meeting Cynthia Nugent, Sara Leach and John Wilson. Congratulations all on a fabulous new season.
