During my pedicure this afternoon, I have to admit I was a bit dismayed to have another customer come in to this open concept salon with her three kids in tow. I’m here for a break from my kid and a bit of grown up time. One of my first instincts was to reach for my smart phone to tweet my annoyance. But I didn’t…
I’m at the PureNail Bar in Port Moody two days before Christmas having a paraffin pedicure, my #1 personal indulgence. This is a new nail salon for me and I’ve heard good things – the ambiance is calm, the modern décor is a soothing blend of white and blue and there’s a Christmas chick flick (Four Christmases) playing on the big screen TV. A lovely spot to have my toes painted with OPI’s sparkly red called “A Ruby for Rudolph.”
While my first instinct was to grumble about the kids, I realized that this Mom might not have daycare and this could be her only opportunity to pamper herself. I also realized that the salon would be fools to turn away business by denying service to a potential client. Imagine the PR nightmare that might besiege this franchise if the media and the equal rights lobby got ahold of that story?
I kept my tweet to myself and I’m glad I did. As it turns out, these kids (ages 2, 5 & 10) were great. Well behaved, quiet, respectful, naturally curious, altogether a unique set of Christmas angels.
