One of my Facebook friends recently posted “Leaving for Europe day after tomorrow ” and I cringed. So much of Internet safety is about common sense so why, oh why, would anyone broadcast their absence? Not only did my friend announce their upcoming holiday but they gave potential thieves two days notice to prepare for the opportunity to rob them. It just doesn’t make sense.
There was even a recent article on the UK’s Insurance Times about insurance companies contemplating a household insurance premium for social media users. This worries me in the same way that car insurance does … we all pay for the stupidity of drunk drivers, aggressive drivers and other idiots on the road. Are we now going to have to pay more for social media morons as well?
