Did you know that Facebook uses something called EdgeRank to determine what appears in people’s newsfeeds? This algorithm evaluates every status update, shared link and uploaded videos and photos and decides which users will see it. The key thing to understand is that not everyone will see your post!
During session of the Blogging Success Summit last month, Mari Smith mentioned that manually entered content receives a higher ranking that automatically entered content. I’ve long been an advocate for the convenience of automatically entering content such as a blog post using any one of a number of tools. These might include Facebook’s Notes feature, Networked Blogs, RSS Graffitti or other similar tools. But after hearing Mari’s talk I’m changing my tune.
If you could increase your visibility and, potentially, the level of interaction with your fans, customers and followers, would it be worth a little extra time and effort? I think so and hope you’ll agree. I’ve been experimenting with a blend of manual content and automatic content on the Beachcomber Communications Facebook page and I’ll let you know my observations soon. In the meantime why not stop by and see what content is of interest to you?
