Brava to Denise Wakeman for her post on Social Media Examiner – 13 Ideas to Inspire Your Blog Content. I agree with her advice and encourage everyone to try out her tips. I’d also like to add a few of my own suggestions to help you with your blog content.
1) Carry a pocket camera with you all the time. I’m partial to the Kodak Zi8 for its HD capabilities, easy functionality, still and video options and, best of all, USB connection. Snapshots and quick video hits are terrific ways to spark blog content.
2) Seek out quotable quotes and I don’t mean from a quote collection. As you talk to people throughout the day truly listen to what they have to say. Who knows you may have a pithy drycleaner, clever letter carrier or amusing child feeding you great one liners. Jot them down and blog.
3) Get an offline life. I’m not trying to be rude but stepping away from the computer and participating in what’s going on in your neighborhood can offer a wealth of ideas. Attend movies, craft shows, sporting events. Go skating, hiking or beachcombing. Visit bookstores, seniors centres and family.
4) Take a seminar that has nothing to do with your professional specialty. I do this every once in a while and always come away with some new gem of knowledge and a fresh perspective.
5) Ask for an introduction. Social media tools like LinkedIn offer us an opportunity to connect with new people. Seek out someone interesting and chat with them for a few minutes. Ask their advice. Seek their opinon. Consider their point of view. Enjoy their company.
Happy blogging!
